Pope Air Force Base, currently known as Pope Field, is situated 12 miles northwest of Fayetteville, located in Cumberland County, North Carolina. This airbase is one of the oldest military bases, and some of its primary duties include mapping, photographic operations, and mail services. It also provides airfield support, security, and emergency response. Cumberland County is the 5th populous county in North Carolina and the site for the civil war battle of March 1865, making it a historical place.

Pope Air Force Base on-base housing is privatized and offers about 11 communities for you to stay with your family on the base. You could also stay in Hope Mills, Raeford, Sanford, and Southern Pines. Other choice locations include Arran Lakes, Lake Shores, Spring Lake, Hope Mills, Carvers Creek Township, Stedman, Cumberland, Eureka Springs, North Point Village, Cross Creek Township, and Seventy-first Township.

There are no schools on the base but you could put your kids in any of the schools in the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank and Camden County Schools. The Elizabeth City-Pasquotank County School system has twelve schools that serve approximately 6,000 students in grades 1 through 12. The Camden County School system has about 1600 students and supports this area too. Private schools in the area include Victory Christian School, New Life Academy and Albemarle School. In addition, there are other higher education opportunities available at Mid-Atlantic Christian University, College of the Albemarle, and Carolina State University.
