Naval Base San Diego is located on the shores of San Diego Bay, near National City, in San Diego County, San Diego. The base is also known as the 32nd Street Naval Station because it is located right at the southern end of 32nd Street. It is 5 miles away from downtown San Diego, approximately 8 miles away from the San Diego International Airport. Founded in 1918, the base is nowadays the primary homeport of the Pacific Fleet.

Liberty Military Housing 38 communities with a total of 9,000 housing units all across the San Diego area and one of these communities is located on the base. There are no DoD schools on base, and there aren’t any public schools on base either. However, since the base is located in a very central location, access to public schools is not limited. Children of military families living in the base or in the city are served by the San Diego Unified School District.
