Marine Corps Air Facility Quantico (MCAF) is a United States Marine Corps airfield that is located within the Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia. Commissioned in 1919 as Brown Field, it was constructed for the squadron that was returning home from WWI. Needing improvements for safety, construction was done and the new facility was renamed Turner Field and then again renamed to Marine Corps Air Station Quantico. During WWII this base was used for training and as a staging base for aircrew. After the end of WWII, the base continued as a training facility and was given the additional responsibility of overhaul and repair of aircraft. Quantico is a town in Prince William County, Virginia, that lies along the Potomic River and is about 35 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. Quantico serves as the location of headquarters for many training institutions, including the Marine Corps University, the FBI Academy, and the DEA Training Academy. In addition to hosting the National Museum of the Marine Corps, there are fun and interesting places to visit in the areas surrounding Quantico, Virginia. Some of these sites include Quantico National Cemetery, the Air Ground Museum, Leesylvania State Park, Kids N Motion, Veterans Memorial Park, Fantasy Playground, Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge, Gunston Hall Plantation, and the Workhouse Arts Center.


There are quite a few towns in Virginia that are very close to the Quantico installations and provide residents with nice neighborhoods. These towns, many within minutes to Quantico, include Stafford, Fredricksburg, Triangle, Dumfries, Garrisonville, Woodbridge, and Manassas.
