Ellsworth Air Force Base is a United States Base that is situated 10 miles northeast of Rapid City, South Dakota, north of the town of Box Elder near Rapid City. Ellsworth AFB was commissioned in 1941 and is assigned to the Global Strike Command’s Eighth Air Force. This base has a population of 8,000 employees and their family members. Rapid City, where the base is located, lies in western South Dakota around the eastern part of Black Hills National Forest.

Apart from Ellsworth barracks, there are other communities on the base. They are Black Hills Estates, Prairie View Estates, and Rushmore Heights. The off-base neighborhoods close by are Colonial Pine Hills, Ashland Heights, Canyon Lake Drive / 38th Street, Skyline Drive / Route 16, Sheridan Lake Road, and Flormann Street.

No schools are located on the base. However, you could go to nearby schools such as Ellsworth Air Force Base Child Development Center, Carrousel School, Patriot Elementary School- Badger Clark, Vandenberg Elementary School, South Park Elementary School, Southwest Middle School, and West Middle, Douglas High School, and Stevens High School.

In Rapid City, you could go to Roosevelt Swim Center if swimming is your thing. You could also go to Legacy Commons – a playground for the kids. Other top places include Pirates Cove Adventure Golf, Cosmos Mystery Area, and Putz n Glo Black Light Mini Golf.
