Creech Air Force Base is a United States Air Force (USAF) command and control facility in Clark County, Nevada, used “to engage in daily Overseas Contingency Operations of remotely piloted aircraft systems which fly missions across the globe.” This base is the aerial training site for the USAF Thunderbirds and “is one of two emergencies divert airfields” for the Nevada Test and Training Range. Creech AFB is about 45 miles northwest of Nellis AFB, and it takes an hour to drive from Nellis to Creech.

There is no on-base schooling, so all students need to attend school in the Clark County School District. It is the 5th largest in the country and serves the communities of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City, and Mesquite. Clark County schools offer compressive education programs from kindergarten to the 12th grade and have multiple magnet schools and career technical academies.

Very few airmen assigned to Creech AFB live in the nearby town, which has slightly less than 2,000 people. Minimal services are available in Indian Springs. On-base housing is only offered at Nellis AFB. It’s privatized and operated by Hunt Military Communities. They offer many unique neighborhoods like Nellis Terrace and Landing communities, with various floor plans available depending on your rank. Off-base housing can be found in North Las Vegas, Indian Springs, Henderson, or Boulder City.

It is no surprise that the desert of southern Nevada surrounding Creech AFB is hot. Although it can get cold at night, the daytime averages, even in winter, rarely drop below the mid-40s. Be sure to always have water on you when going out to explore the activities around; from outdoor nature excursions to visiting the NASCAR speedway track; there is a lot of activities to participate in. Rainbow mountains, Lake Mead recreational park, and Ice Age fossils State park are just some of the attractions in the area.
