Whiteman Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base located just south of Knob Noster, Missouri, United States. Since it was commissioned in 1942, the base has undergone multiple name changes. The U.S. Army Air Corps selected the site of the present-day base, and the base was officially opened on August 6, 1942. It was finally renamed on December 3, 1955, when it had become a part of the U.S. Air Force. Whiteman Air Force Base is currently named in honor of 2nd Lieutenant George A. Whiteman. In 1963, the base transitioned from a bomber base to a missile base.
On-base housing can be found in one of eight neighborhoods on Whiteman AFB, which are pet friendly with some breed restrictions and limitations. There are no schools on base, so students will attend school in the Knob Noster School District, which has one elementary school, one middle school, and one high school. There is the option of Concordia, a small town located 17.6 miles from the base which contains two schools, seven elementary schools, and a high school that serve the children around the area.
The weather in Whiteman AFB ranges from hot and humid summers to very cold and windy winters, and it is partly cloudy year-round with rainy summers. The base is located an hour east of the city, allowing one to take a trip for shopping, nightlife, and restaurants. There is a zoo, baseball stadiums, museums dedicated to art, and memorials. You could engage in several outdoor activities at the Knob Noster State Park, play some golf and network at the Royal Oaks Golf Club, or take a tour of the Montserrat Vineyards.
