US Coast Guard Maui is located near the town of Maalaea, on the island of Maui in Hawaii. Maui is the second-largest island of all the Hawaiian Islands, after the island of Hawaii, with an area of 720 square miles. It is also the third-largest island in terms of population, right after Oahu (which is home to the state capital, Honolulu) and the island of Hawaii, with a population of 145,000 people. The base is 9 miles away from the city of Kahului, which is the largest city on the island, and it is 12 miles away from Kahului Airport, which is the main airport that serves the island.
There is no on-base housing available on the US Coast Guard Maui Station, as it is a relatively small station with just a port and an administrative building. If you are on a long-term assignment on the island, you would have to look for housing off the base. The cost of living and rents are significantly higher in Hawaii compared to the mainland, however, rents are a lot less expensive in Maui compared to Oahu or the island of Hawaii.
There are no DoD schools on the base and there are no public schools in the base either since the base is very small as mentioned before. All public education in Hawaii is handled by the Hawaii Department of Education, it is not handled on a county level. The nearest schools are in the town of Kihei.
Maui is a lot smaller than other islands, however, it offers a lot of sites that should be visited, such as the Red Hill, Haleakala National Park, and many more. The island feels very untouched compared to other islands.
