Sheppard Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base located just north of the central business district of Wichita Falls, in Wichita County, Texas. The largest training base and most diversified in Air Education and Training Command, Sheppard AFB was activated in 1941 as Sheppard Field, a United States Army Air Corps training center. Sheppard Field was deactivated in 1946 and was used by the Texas National Guard for the following two years. In 1948, the installation was reactivated to support Lackland AFB as Sheppard Air Force Base. Over the next 30 years and to the present, this installation would be used as a training center with various types of trainings and schools from basic training, pilot training, to medical training.
