Sector Hampton Roads is a multi-mission unit located on Coast Guard Base Portsmouth in Portsmouth, Virginia. Sector Hampton Roads was established in 2005 with the merging of Marine Safety Office Hampton Roads, Group Hampton Roads, and Group Eastern Shore. Sector Hampton Roads supports the six strategic goals of the Commandant. These goals include maritime safety, maritime mobility, maritime security, national defense, protection of natural resources, and homeland defense. The area of responsibility belonging to Sector Hampton Roads includes the lower half of the Chesapeake Bay and adjacent waters in the Atlantic Ocean that go out to 200 nautical miles from shore.
