Located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, in Accomack County, Surface Combat Systems Center Wallops Island (SCSC) is a Navy base that shares space with NASA at the Wallops Flight Facility. In its early years, the Wallops Island military station was owned by the Coast Guard until the Navy took over in 1941 and was joined by NASA in 1958. SCSC Wallops Island is a center that works in collaboration with NASA, provides highly technical engineering and training support to the fleet, and has a mission to develop new and advanced techniques to be used in future by the Navy.

There are quite a few places to visit near the SCSC Wallops Island Navy Base, including NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitors Center, Chincoteague Bay Field Station, Wallops Island National Wildlife Refuge, Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, Museum of Chincoteague, Assateague Lighthouse, Chincoteague Veteran’s Memorial Park, Captain Timothy Hill House, Chincoteague Natural History Association Wildlife Tour, Chincoteague Pony Centre, and many tours to see the surrounding areas and waters.

Some of these areas, located in Virginia, include Atlantic, Wattsville, Horntown, Oak Hall, Temperanceville, Mappsville, and Nelsonia.
