Scott Air Force Base is located near the city of Mascoutah and East St. Louis in Illinois. The base is in St. Clair County, and it is approximately 25 miles away from downtown St. Louis, which is the second-largest city in terms of population in Missouri. It is also 20 miles away from East St. Louis, the part of St. Louis that falls under the state lines of Illinois. Scott AFB is home to the 375th Air Mobility Wing, also the 932nd Airlift Wing, and 126th Air Refueling Wing.

Scott AFB offers on-base housing; however, it is privatized. On-base housing is managed by Hunt Military Communities and it offers many housing types, from two-to-four bedroom houses. If you are looking for housing off-base, you should look for houses in Lebanon, Belleville, Mascoutah, Shiloh, and O’Fallon which are right outside the base. If you are looking for the features and amenities that are offered by a big city, you can also look for housing in St. Louis as well. The best neighborhoods in St. Louis are Skinker DeBaliviere, Hi-Pointe which is the safest neighborhood in St. Louis, or Benton Park. Off-base housing in the area is less expensive than the national average, it is possible to find a three-bedroom house for $800/month.

There are no DoD schools on Scott AFB, children of service members are served by Mascoutah Community Unit School District 19. There is one elementary school on the base, Scott Elementary School. For middle and high schools, children would have to go to the nearby city of Mascoutah.
