Randolph Air Force Base is located in Universal City, Texas, just outside of San Antonio. Opened in 1931, this base served as a training facility for pilots for the United States Army Air Corps, The United States Army Air Forces, and the Air Force during its time of operation. In 2010, Randolph Air Force base merged with Lackland Air Force Base and Fort Sam Houston to form Joint Base San Antonio. Three major units are attached to Randolph Air Force Base that include a flying wing, medical group, and mission support group.


The City of San Antonio was founded in 1718 as a Spanish mission and colonial outpost and was the first chartered civil settlement in present-day Texas.
