Naval Station Newport is located in the city of Newport in the town of Middletown, Rhode Island. It is the home to the Naval War College, Naval Justice School, and more than 42 Naval and Defense commands and activities. This military base is a significant site for the education and training of officers, senior enlisted personnel, midshipman candidates. Also, this base evaluates advanced underwater warfare and development systems. Middletown is in the south of Portsmouth and north of Newport, which is how it got the name “Middletown.”

You could always stay off base, but there are also options on the base. Coasters Harbor Island, Coddington Cove, Farragut Field, Fort Adams, Greene Lane, Hart Field, Melville, and Naval Hospital are the neighborhoods you can find on the base. On the contrary, off base communities are Sachuest, Newport East, Lawtons, Newport Southeast, and Melville West.

There are no Department of Defense Schools at Naval Station Newport; nevertheless, there are six school districts in Newport County. Three of these districts are situated on Aquidneck Island with the station – Middletown Public Schools, Newport Public Schools, and Tiverton School District. These schools include Pell Elementary, Ranger Elementary, Tiverton High, Portsmouth Middle, and Rogers High.
