The Naval Station (NS) Mayport is one of the three major Navy installations in Jacksonville and the third-largest naval facility in the US. One of the station’s mottos is “Finest Service to the Finest Fleet;” as it works to sustain and enhance warfighter readiness. The base is located in Jacksonville, Florida, with a busy harbor capable of holding thirty-four ships and one 8,000-foot runway. The base is home to the US Navy’s Naval Forces Southern Command, also known as the United States Fourth Fleet.

There are government housing on the naval station families and single service members which is maintained by the DoD. There are also temporary housing options on the base. Houses on and around the base are close to facilities like the commissary, fitness center, base restaurants, child development centers, and more. Since military housing is limited at NS Mayport, many families opt for renting or buying houses in neighboring communities. The closest major neighboring communities where you can stay are Mayport, Wonderwood, North Beach, and Atlantic Beach.

There are no DoD schools at NS Mayport, but there are numerous private, public, magnet, and charter schools in the area. The place is also home to many local child care programs, including two on-base child development centers. Public schools in the county are administered by Duval County Public Schools, which is governed by the Duval County School Board. Three of the region’s high schools regularly feature at the top of the list of Duval’s top public high schools in Newsweek.
