The New Cumberland Defense Depot is a United States Department of Defense military base located a short distance south of Harrisburg, in Fairview Township, York County, Pennsylvania. It is adjacent to the Capital City Airport and bordered by the Susquehanna River at its East and north; the southern border is marked by Interstate 76 of The Pennsylvania Turnpike. It was initially built in 1918 because of its strategic position on the Susquehanna River. The depot covers 851 acres and combines three smaller Department of Defense Logistics facilities: Administrative Support Center East, Defense Distribution Region East Headquarters, and Defense Distribution Depot Susquehanna, Pennsylvania.

Major league sports, concerts, and even Broadway shows are accessible from the installation if you plan the trip carefully and consider relevant details like local rush hours and tourist seasons. Those interested in outdoor activities like hiking, nature trails, and sightseeing can visit Poconos. It is also within a 2-hour drive in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, known for its’ major league sports, international cuisine, and the famous Mutter Museum.

There is no on-base housing, so that Military members can apply for government housing at Carlisle Barracks or Naval Support Activity (NSA) Mechanicsburg. You can find off-base housing in the cities of Mechanicsburg and Carlisle. In addition, the Mechanicsburg community is home to a lot of parks and other outdoor activities located just a few feet from your front door.

Those living near the installation will send their children to West Shore School District schools. There are multiple elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools. School choices include Cedar Cliff High School, Red Land High School, Allen Middle School, and Fairview Elementary School.
