NAWS China Lake is a large military base belonging to the US Navy. It is located in the state of California, and its main role is to provide research, testing, and evaluation programs to the Navy. The base is the largest single landholding base of the Navy, and it makes up 12% of the total airspace of California. The base was first built in 1935 for civilian use, but it was converted to a military base in 1942. The nearest city to the base is Ridgecrest, California, an idyllic mountain town surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges.
