Description

Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach is a US Navy storage and loading facility located in Seal Beach, in the Greater Los Angeles Area, Orange County, California. The base is approximately 30 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, 8 miles east of Long Beach, 9 miles northwest of Huntington Beach, and 23 miles away from Anaheim. The base is spread across 13 square miles and has 128 ammunition depots which provide over 590,000 square feet of space for storing munitions.

Since it is a weapon and munition storage space, rather than a fully-fledged military base, typical amenities found on other military bases are very limited on Naval Weapon Station Seal Beach. While there is privatized on-base housing managed by Liberty Military Communities, it is only available for the ranks of W1-O6, and there are only 8 units available on base. While there is privatized on-base housing managed by Liberty Military Communities, it is only available for the ranks of W1-O6, and there are only 8 units available on base. However, there are other units off the base in Sea Breeze Village. Since the housing supply is very low, most military families end up looking for housing within the local community. Because of its very central location, there are many housing options available for all budgets and family sizes. One thing to keep in mind is the traffic, so anything over 5 miles will most likely be a commute that is longer than 30 minutes. So, the best neighborhoods would be Seal Beach, Bridgeport, Bellmont Park, Belmont Shore, Belmont Heights, and Alamitos Heights.

As you might have expected, there are no DoD nor public schools on base. However, there are many schools right outside the base. Children of military families are served by the Los Angeles Unified School District, which serves almost all of Los Angeles and its surrounding areas.
