Naval Magazine Indian Island is located near Port Hadlock in Jefferson County, Washington, across Puget Sound from Whidbey Island and Seattle. This base was built on 2,716 acres of Indian Island in the northeast corner of Washington State Olympic Peninsula. It has been used as storage for Navy munitions and submarine nets. Port Hadlock, known as Port-Hadlock-Irondale, is located in Jefferson County, Washington, and is a big vacation spot because of its laid-back and breezy feel.

This historic base has no known on-base housing provision apart from the barrack; thus, one would have to find places to rent or buy around the base. Off base, You could live in Port Townsend, Chimacum, Irondale, or Greenback, closer to the base. However, you could go further to places like Sequim, Freeland, or Oak Harbor to find suitable off-base housing.

There are no schools on base, but there are many excellent middle, high, elementary, and higher institutions to go off base. Few of these places include the Chimacum Creek Primary School, Sunfield Farm & Waldorf School, Cedarbook Adventist Christine School, Washington State University-Learning Center North Olympic Peninsula, and Washington State University.

We have mentioned how big of a vacation spot this city is, but other things endear it to our hearts, such as the antique shops, the Olympic Kayak Tours, and The Valley Tavern, a beautiful bar for a night out with friends.
