Located in Lauderdale County and Kemper County, Naval Air Station Meridian is 11 miles Northeast of Meridian, Mississippi. It was built in 1957 but started operations in 1961. NAS Meridian supports technical training and aviation and is one of the Navy’s jet strike training facilities for pilots. Meridian was established in 1860 at the Southern Railways of Mississippi and built an economy based on railways and goods transported on said railways.

Prime off base places to stay in Meridian are Downtown Meridian, Bonita Lakes, Meridian Station, Collinsville, and Chunky. Housing development in NAS Meridian, known as NAS Meridian Homes, offers accommodation with laundry facilities, televisions, vending machines, fitness facilities, and religious amenities. If you want to stay at more family-friendly places on base, places like Juniper Ridge Neighborhood and Pine Crest Neighborhood would be ideal for you.

There are no schools on the base; therefore, you would have to send your kids to Northeast Lauderdale Elementary School, Middle School, and High School. However, this isn’t cause for alarm as buses will be provided to and from the schools by the base. For higher education around Meridian, Meridian Community College is a good place to study, and finally, the Final Touch Beauty School provides great vocational studies.

This southern city has a thriving entertainment and tourist scene like its Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience that draws crowds. With the sunny weather, you can take a walk through the city or have a time out with the family on a visit to Bonita Lake.
