Marine Corps Air Station New River is located in Jacksonville, North Carolina. This helicopter and tilt-rotor base are located 4 miles south of downtown Jacksonville. It was named McCutcheon after General Keith B. McCutcheon and supports aircrew training for Marine Corps Aviation units. Just like most large bases, the on-base housing is privatized, offering a wide range of neighborhoods to choose from such as Heroes Manor, Tarawa Terrace, Midway Park, Berkley Manor, Watkins Grove, and Paradise Point. However, New River, Midway Park, and Oakleaf Plantation are equally great places to consider if you’d prefer to stay off base.

Marines Corps Air Station New River has seven Department of Defence Education Activity schools on base, and they are all within walking distance of any of the neighborhoods. Nevertheless, you could send your kids to schools in Camp Lejeune, a base nearby or any public or private school under your district. You could also put your kids in off-base schools like MCAS New River High, Lejeune High, and Johnson Primary School.

There are provisions for parks and golf courses like Point Golf Course on the base if golf is your thing. Still, you could go to town and visit the Lynnwood Park Zoo, take your family to the Children’s Museum of Jacksonville, or take a walk through history in Lejeune Memorial Gardens.
