Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base is located in the city of Los Alamitos, in the Greater Los Angeles Area, Orange County, California. The base is 30 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, 10 miles east of Long Beach, 10 miles away from Anaheim, and 15 miles away from Huntington Beach. The base has two runways, which can handle all types of aircraft that are in service of the armed forces. These days, the base is home to California National Guard’s 40th Infantry Division and 40th Aviation Brigade.

Since it is a training base, rather than a fully-fledged military base, there is no on-base housing for military families on base. So if you have a long-term assignment to this base, you would have to look for housing within the local community. Because of its very central location, there are many housing options available for all budgets and family sizes. One thing to keep in mind is the traffic, so anything over 5 miles will most likely be a commute that is longer than 30 minutes. So, the best neighborhoods would be Rossmoor, West Garden Grove, Stanton, Westminster, Cypress, and maybe Midway City.

As expected, there are no DoD nor public schools on base. However, there are many schools right outside the base. Children of military families are served by the Los Angeles Unified School District, which serves almost all of Los Angeles and its surrounding areas.
