Holloman AFB supports national security objectives by deploying worldwide to support peacetime and wartime contingencies. It covers nearly 60,000 acres in New Mexico’s Tularosa Basin, between the Sacramento and San Andreas mountain ranges. The base is about 10 miles southwest of the central business district of Alamogordo in Otero County and has been a part of the local community since 1942.

Holloman AFB has hot, dry summers, and short, cool winters. The area around Holloman Air Force Base rarely gets snow, but the nearby mountains provide you the option to go Skiing and sledding. There are tons of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors with fishing, hiking, boating, and recreation at nearby parks and mountain resorts in the hot summer months. The area has a lot to offer with local farmers’ markets, golf, casinos, wineries, the American Armed Forces Museum, and the New Mexico Museum of Space History. Also nearby is White Sands National Park, where visitors can hike, picnic, or marvel at the glistening white sands of New Mexico.
