Fort Johnson offers on-base housing and it is privatized. Corvias Military Housing is the private partner in Fort Johnson regarding housing. There are 3 neighborhoods in total depending on rank and family members, however, all on-base amenities can be used by soldiers from all ranks and paygrades. As mentioned before, most of the available on-post housing is in the southern part of the base. If you are looking for housing off base, you would have to look at the cities of DeRidder or Leesville, as Fort Johnson is not near any major city, the closest one is Lafayette and it is 110 miles away from the base. Luckily, the cost of living and housing is lower than the national average in these two cities.

There are no DoD schools in Vernon Parish, however, there are two local schools located on base: North Polk Elementary and Richard Milburn High School. Children of the service members can go to any schools in Vernon or Beauregard Parishes.
