Fort Eustis is an Army facility located in Newport News Virginia. Home to the US Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Fort Eustis has a rich history that stretches back to WWI. Originally called Camp Eustis, this installation was constructed in 1918. In 1923 Camp Eustis was declared a permanent installation and was renamed Fort Eustis. Mothballed during the Great Depression, Fort Eustis became a camp for homeless laborers and a prison farm. The Army post was reactivated in 1941, becoming a Coast Artillery Replacement Center until it became home to the Transportation Corps and School in 1946 and added the Transportation Development Engineering Station in 1950. In 2010 the Army Transportation School headquarters was relocated to Fort Lee and Fort Eustis was merged with Langley Air Force Base to form Joint Base Langley-Eustis.
