Fort Campbell is located across the state lines of Kentucky and Tennessee, the northern half of the base is in Kentucky whereas the southern half is in Tennessee. Situated strategically, the base is ready to deploy forces by air, rail, highway, and inland waterways. The base is located in the northwestern section of the city of Clarksville, Tennessee, which is home to more than 165,000 residents. The nearest major city is Nashville, which is 60 miles away from the base. The major units that are assigned to this base are the 101st Airborne Division, 5th Special Forces Group, and 160th Special Aviation Operations Regiment. The base is also home to the parachute demonstration team, called “Screaming Eagles”.

If you are looking for housing off-base, you should look at Clarksville in Tennessee, Oak Grove (which is just outside the base, but available rentals can be limited) and Hopkinsville (larger than Oak Grove, but further away from the base) in Kentucky. Cost of living and rental prices are lower than the national average in these cities, and they are considered relatively safe.


There are DoD schools available on base, since the base is in a central location off-post public schools are readily available as well. There are 6 DoD schools in total, 4 of them are elementary schools, one of them is a middle school and one of them is a high school.
