Fort Bliss, with its history from 1848, was built in its present location in 1849 and is still in use today. This is a very large installation that stretches from El Paso, Texas to the Lincoln National Forest in New Mexico. The headquarters for Fort Bliss are located in Central El Paso, Texas along with being home to the Army’s 1st Armored Division, other major units include the 6th Brigade, the 11th Brigade, the 31st Brigade, and the 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command. The United States Army Special Forces Command has a pre-mission training facility at Fort Bliss, Texas. There are multiple facilities housed on Fort Bliss including Biggs Army Airfield, McGregor Range, Doña Ana Range, North Training Area, and South Training Area.
