Eglin Air Force Base is a US Air Force located in the western Florida Panhandle, about five kilometers southwest of Valparaiso in Okaloosa County. Okaloosa County is situated northwest of Florida, United States; it extends from the Gulf of Mexico to the Alabama state line. The country had an estimated population of 211,668 in 2020, with a total land area of 1,082 square miles, covering land and water.

The base is owned by the Department of Defense, run by the US Air Force, and controlled by the Air Force material Command. Eglin Base employs over 8,500 civilians, about 4,500 military personnel, and 2,200 jobs. The area has a warm subtropical climate that lasts longer than the average summer, with an annual precipitation ranging from 640 to 1,520 mm.

Eglin Air Force Base has more rainfall than precipitation, with fifty to sixty days of precipitation per annum. It also experiences some days without sunshine, allowing year-round outdoor activities. Students in Eglin Air Force Base go to public schools which are operated by the Okaloosa County School District. It has the Northwest Florida State College which has four campuses in the county and serves over 10,000 residents annually.
