Camp Mackall is a US Army training base situated in both eastern Richmond County and northern Scotland County in North Carolina. This base is more precisely located in the south of the Southern Pines town, and its major role is in training members of the US Army Special Forces. Camp Mackall is around 62,000 acres large, has five cinemas, an airfield, about three 5,000 foot runways, and a hospital with a capacity of more than 1,000 people. This base is basically a town of its own, just like its neighboring base Fort Bragg.

It is important to note that Camp Mackall is a sub installation of the massive Fort Bragg; thus, even though Camp Mackall does not have on-base housing, the housing on Fort Bragg can serve. Nonetheless, since there is no on-base housing option, you could rent or buy a place nearby, in Vass Southern Pines, Scotts Mill at Treyburn, Cliffdale West, Whispering Winds, or Pinehurst.

Sandhills Community College is located near the base and it offers good education with a high acceptance rate. The base also has the Army Special Forces School, which trains people who want to join the special forces. Camp Mackall’s school falls under the Richmond County School District along with other schools such as East Rockingham Elementary School, Fairview Heights Elementary School, LJ Bell Elementary School, Hamlet Middle School, Ashley Chapel Educational, and Richmond County Ninth Grade Academy.

When you’re in the base or the environs, you could visit the Rankin Museum of American Heritage, Legacy Golf Links, Railhouse Brewery, and Pub or the Weymouth Woods – Sandhills Nature to watch the numerous exhibitions they have.
