The Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune is a 246-square-mile United States military training facility in Jacksonville, North Carolina, whose mission is to support the various Marine Corps commands. Camp Lejeune encompasses 156,000 acres with 11 miles of beach around the New River tidal estuary and borders the Atlantic Ocean. In April 1941, construction was approved in Onslow County, and the base became fully operational in the fall of the same year.

Jacksonville is ideally situated along beautiful waterways and offers access to beaches like Hurst beach and Onslow beach, fine dining, entertainment, and shopping centers. There are also attractions like the Lejeune Memorial Gardens, the Pelletier House, and Freedom fountain.

On-base housing is privatized, but there are a good number of comfortable and roomy homes available for all ranks. Off base, housing can be found in the greater Onslow County in Jacksonville, Hubert, Sneads Ferry, and Hampstead. Homes offered range from apartments to duplexes.

These schools are served by the Onslow County School system, a growing school system currently among the 15 largest systems in the state of North Carolina. The area provides a wide range of public and private schools like White Oak and Swansboro High. Colleges can also be found in Jacksonville, NC. The Coastal Carolina Community College and Mount Olive College Jacksonville are great college options in the area.
