Camp Frank D. Merrill is a training camp of the US Army located 12 miles north of the small town of Dahlonega, Georgia. The base is located in Lumpkin County. It is home to the 5th Ranger Training Battalion and the mountain training section of the US Army Ranger School. It is approximately 80 miles away from downtown Atlanta, and 90 miles away from Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The camp is named after Frank Dow Merrill, a former US Army General who became famous for conducting operations deep within enemy lines.

As Camp Frank D. Merrill is a temporary training camp for Rangers, there is no long-term housing offered on-base. If you are assigned to Camp Frank D. Merrill for a longer period of time, you would have to look for housing outside the base. Because of the remote location of the camp, your best bet would be to look for housing in Dahlonega, the nearest town to the camp. Dahlonega is a quaint, historic little town that houses roughly 7,000 people. The town is home to the University of North Georgia, and the Dahlonega Gold Museum, as it was the popular destination during the second gold rush.

As expected, there are no DoD schools on base, there are also no schools on base either. The children of service members are served by the Lumpkin County Schooling System. There are 1 elementary, 1 middle, and 1 high school in Dahlonega, all within close distance to each other.
