Camp Frank D. Merrill is a training camp of the US Army located 12 miles north of the small town of Dahlonega, Georgia. The base is located in Lumpkin County. It is home to the 5th Ranger Training Battalion and the mountain training section of the US Army Ranger School. It is approximately 80 miles away from downtown Atlanta, and 90 miles away from Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The camp is named after Frank Dow Merrill, a former US Army General who became famous for conducting operations deep within enemy lines.


As Camp Frank D. Merrill is a temporary training camp for Rangers, there is no long-term housing offered on-base. If you are assigned to Camp Frank D. Merrill for a longer period of time, you would have to look for housing outside the base.
