Camp Atterbury is a military training post located in central Indiana, approximately 4 miles west of the city of Edinburgh. Camp Atterbury is in Johnson, Bartholomew, and Brown counties, so it is span across a vast land to provide the optimal training ground for military forces. Its terrain is also suitable for basic training, as it includes both hilly and level sections. The post is 40 miles south of the state capital, and the most populous city, Indianapolis.

Since it is a training site rather than a fully-fledged active military base, there aren’t a lot of amenities offered on base, such as housing. If you are assigned to Camp Atterbury on a long-term assignment, you would have to search for housing in local communities since there is housing. There is short term lodging, however, offered by The Atterbury Lodging Office which offers hotel-style rooms. For housing, you would have to look at the city of Edinburgh, or suburbs of Indianapolis, such as Franklin and Shelbyville. However, Edinburgh is the closest to the post. Luckily, cost of living and rental prices are significantly lower than the national average in Edinburgh, which makes house-hunting a lot easier.

As expected, there aren’t also any DoD or public schools on base either. Children of service member are served by Bartholomew, Johnson, and Schelby County School Districts. The nearest elementary school to the base is East Side Elementary School, located in Edinburgh.
