Blue Grass Army Depot is a storage facility for the traditional explosive ordnance and chemical weapons for the US Army in Madison County, Kentucky. The base is located between the cities of Richmond and Berea, and it is 40 miles south of downtown Lexington, the nearest major city and the second-most populous city in Kentucky with a population of 330,000 people. The nearest international airport is Louisville International Airport, which is approximately 110 miles away from the base. This facility houses most of the chemical weapons found in the US today, so its importance cannot be understated.

Blue Grass Army Depot does not have any on-base housing; however, they are being constructed. In the meantime, the military families who are assigned to Blue Grass Army Depot on longer assignments have to look for housing off the base. The base is really close to the city of Richmond, also in Madison County, which has a population of 36,000. Fortunately, the cost of living and rental prices are lower than the national average in both Richmond, and Berea, which is also very close to the base. Home prices in the area range from $80,000 and upwards, if you are looking to buy instead of rent.

There are no DoD schools nor public schools on base. Families living near the base are served by Madison County School District, and the nearest elementary school to the base is Kingston Elementary, which is located right outside the base.
