Beale Air Force Base is located near Yuba City in Northern California, in Yuba County. The base is 18 miles east of Yuba City, and it is 50 miles away from the nearest major city, Sacramento, the sixth-largest city in California. Founded in 1942 during WW II, the base is now home to the 9th Reconnaissance Wing, 21st Space Wing, 12th Reconnaissance Squadron, and California Air National Guard’s 195th Wing.

Beale Air Force Base offers on-base housing, and it is privatized. Housing is managed by Balfour Beatty Communities, and they offer 5 distinct neighborhoods depending on the rank and family size. Homes are pet-friendly, and up to two pets are allowed in each home. If you are looking for housing off-base, your best bet would be looking at Yuba City, the nearest city to the base. Yuba City is not a major city, however, it is still home to more than 70,000 residents, offering many types of homes for military families looking for housing within the local community. Although California has a very high cost of living, Yuba City has a significantly lower cost of living than the state average, even though it is still higher than the national average.

There are no DoD schools on base, however, there are 3 elementary schools located on base: Lone Tree School, Wheatland Charter Academy, and Wheatland Elementary School. For middle and high school, children of military families would have to go off-base.
