Located in the city of Anniston, Alabama, Anniston Army Depot is a major army depot, whose main functions are to produce and repair ground combat vehicles, as well as to store chemical weapons. The base was first constructed in 1940, and it has been in continuous use ever since. Anniston, Alabama, the closest city to the base, is a part of the Anniston-Oxford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is an important cultural hub in the region.

Anniston is a relatively small city, but it does come with a vibrant real estate market with plenty of properties for everyone. The most notable neighborhoods in the area include Golden Springs, Bush, Saks, and Eulaton.

At the base, you will not find schools under the direct management of the Department of Defense. However, your children can attend the local public schools managed by the local Anniston City Schools. Available schools include Anniston High School, Anniston Middle School, Golden Springs Elementary School, and Randolph Park Elementary School.

In spite of its relatively small size, Anniston is still a fun city with plenty of activities for you to explore. Some notable things to do as well as landmarks to explore are the Anniston Museum of Natural History, Mountain Longleaf National Wildlife Preserve, and Oxford Lake. The most notable eateries are Top O The River, Classic on Noble, and Effina’s Downtown.
