Altus Air Force Base is an air force base situated 4 miles east-northeast of Altus, Oklahoma. It was built in 1943, and the Altus Air Force Base host unit is the 97th Air Mobility Wing assigned to the Nineteenth Air Force of the Air Education and Training Command. Its mission is to provide specialized training programs annually for flight crew and air maintenance students. Altus is the county seat for Jackson County, Oklahoma and is the medical hub of southwest Oklahoma, with an area of 48.1km².

Some cool places off the base include Eldorado, Olustee, Tipton, Friendship, Headrick, Frederick, East Duke, Roosevelt, Elmer, and Blair. You could also get places around Falcon Road and Veterans Drive.

There is an elementary school called Mendel Rivers for Pre-K through 4th grade on Altus Air Force Base. Also, there is a Child Development Center on base. Schools nearby fall under the Altus Public Schools and Navajo Public Schools such as Rivers Elementary, Altus High, Altus Intermediate, Roosevelt Elementary, Washington Elementary, Navajo Elementary, Navajo High, Navajo Junior High, and Altus Christian Academy.
