In the scenic Hudson Valley of New York, located just about an hour north of New York City, is the U.S. Military Academy West Point. The Academy is the oldest school for commissioning cadets in the U.S. It began as a fort in 1778, built by the Continental Army. Debuting in 1802, after Thomas Jefferson ordered the creation of the country’s first military Academy, West Point was refitted for the task. There are about 4,200 students at West Point Military Academy in a given semester.

West Point is a rich cultural location with plenty of history while enjoying the picturesque and serene life in the rural Hudson Valley River area. West Point is part of the DoDEA Mid-Atlantic District and New York and Virginia community. Children in grades PK-9 will be able to attend West Points Elementary and Middle Schools on base. There are also private options for schooling and childcare in the surrounding area. High school-aged children will attend school off-post at the nearby James O’Neill Highschool. Other public school districts include Highland Falls-FortMontgomery Central, Newburgh City, Cornwall School District, and Middletown City School District.

On-base housing can be found across the 16 housing neighborhoods on U.S. Army Garrison West Point. Each community has standard amenities such as on-site management and maintenance, basketball and tennis courts, pet-friendly, playgrounds, and more. The neighborhoods include Band, Grey Ghost, Lee, and Lusk. Off base, housing can be found in the nearby cities of New York City with its five boroughs, Peekskill, Garrison, and Highland Falls.
