The United States Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) is located in Dahlgren, Virginia, a very small unincorporated community located in King George County, and has a geographically separated command, the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division Dam Neck Activity (NSWCDDDNA), located in Virginia Beach, VA, that is in close proximity to the largest fleet concentration area in the Navy. Since 1918, Dahlgren has been the site of a U.S. naval base although has had quite a few name changes over time. In the local area, there are many places to see and include the Dahlgren Heritage Museum, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park, Chatham Manor, Fredericksburg Battlefield and Visitor Center, Fredericksburg Visitor Center, James Monroe Museum and Memorial Library, Mary Washington House, and Motts Run Reservoir Recreation Area, Civil War battlefields, public parks, restaurants, interesting and unique places to shop, and many more.
Because this community is very small, many of those who are connected to NSWCDD live in nearby Fredericksburg. Some of the preferred neighborhoods of Fredericksburg to live in are Falmouth, Leeland Station, Lee’s Hill, Downtown Fredericksburg, Idlewild, Meadowbrook, Greenfield Village, Chatham Landing, and Kendall Hills.
