Nellis Air Force Base is a United States Air Force installation in southern Nevada with military schools and more squadrons than any other USAF base. Nellis AFB is located just eight miles out of downtown Las Vegas, Clark County. It is surrounded by a growing North Las Vegas residential community and is the home of the famous United States Air Force Thunderbirds.

There is no on-base schooling, so all students need to attend school in the Clark County School District. It is the 5th largest in the country and serves the communities of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City, and Mesquite. Clark County schools offer compressive education programs from kindergarten to the 12th grade and have multiple magnet schools and career technical academies.

Nellis Air Force Base offers on-base housing throughout its five neighborhoods. They offer many unique areas like Nellis Terrace and Landing communities with various floor plans available depending on your rank. Off-base housing can be found in North Las Vegas, Henderson, or Boulder City, the only city in Nevada without gambling.

It is no surprise that the desert of southern Nevada surrounding Nellis AFB is hot. Although it can get cold at night, the daytime averages, even in winter, rarely drop below the mid-40s. Be sure to always have water on you when going out to explore the activities around, from outdoor nature excursions to visiting the NASCAR speedway track; there are many activities to participate in. Metropolitan Gallery/Art Museum, Hoover Dam, and Martin Luther king park are just some of the attractions in the area.
