Naval Surface Warfare Center is located in Bethesda, Maryland, in a military base in Potomac. This center had another division in Indian Head, Maryland. It acts as an evaluation, development, and defensive and offensive support for surface warfare, as well as involvement in homeland security and research. Potomac, where the Bethesda military base is located, is a small census-designated town in Montgomery County that is also one of the wealthiest zip codes in the US. At the same time, Indian Head, where the other base is located, overlooks the Potomac River.

Like most military housing around Maryland, it is controlled by Liberty Military Housing. They provide more than 150 homes within the communities surrounding the bases. You could choose from other off-base housing in La Plata, White Plains, and Waldorf, Potomac, which are near both divisions of the base. You might also prefer to stay some distance away from the base in which case locations like Willerburn Acres, Burning Tree Estates, Carderock, Wildwood Hills, and Ashleigh are premium choices.

There is no known on-base school in any of the centers, but the Naval Water Surface Warfare Center partnered with the College of Southern Maryland to promote the base’s expertise and inspire young students. This agreement would enable the college students to experience the Warfare center’s expertise in research and development. Moreover, there are a variety of schools you could choose to put your kids in, like the Indian Head School, Indian Head Elementary, Potomac Elementary, Harbor School, Cabin John Middle School, and McLean School. This area also has about 36 private colleges around it, including the Franklin University Art Institute of Washington.

This area also has other attractions apart from its naval bases and array of schools. You could take a hike with your friends or family at Mount Aventine or Chapman State Park, suck in the history at George Washington’s Mount Vernon or enjoy seafood at Grinders Seafood.
