It is among the oldest continuously running medical centers in the United States of America. The military hospital is part of the Charleston Naval Hospital Historic District. This district includes several buildings that serve the medical needs of the base.


Naval Hospital Charleston shares the same housing allocations with Joint Base Charleston. There are family housing units located in two different areas that are gated communities.
