Description

The Naval Construction Battalion, also known as Naval Construction Battalion Port Hueneme (“why-nee-me”) originally hosted and trained over two thousand active duty personnel, in addition to hundreds of private contractors, civilians working on base, and more. In 2000, it merged with the Naval Air Station Point Mugu to become the Naval Base Ventura County. This meant that the two thousand personnel ballooned to over nineteen thousand personnel, and that relying on housing on-base was no longer feasible, despite the hectares of land that the base encompasses. As such, housing off-base is highly recommended, and it is certainly not an undesirable thing when living on the Southern California coast within a hundred miles of downtown Los Angeles.

The nearby city of Oxnard is a beautiful seaside city with near-perfect weather throughout the entire year with Spanish and Mexican influenced houses dotting the picturesque location. If you’re a fan of the beach, and the peaceful sight of palm fronds waving with a gentle breeze, Oxnard is the perfect city in which to settle while based in Naval Construction Battalion Port Hueneme. Most notably, Oxnard is known for some great school districts, such as the Oxnard Union School District and Ocean View School District.

If you would prefer housing away from the coastal line, then look no further than the city of Camarillo, which is still located in Ventura County, and only an eighteen minute (approximately thirteen miles) drive to the Naval Construction Battalion Port Hueneme base.
