Marine Corps Logistics Base is located just outside the city of Albany, Georgia. The base is approximately 10 miles away from downtown Albany, 100 miles southeast of Columbus, and 180 miles south of Atlanta. The nearest international airport is in Tallahassee, which is around 90 miles away from the base. The primary function of the base is to help maintain and repair ground combat and support equipment. The city of Albany, which houses the base, is also home to more than 75,000 residents. The base is in Dougherty County.

Unlike many military bases in the surrounding area, MCLB Albany does not have privatized housing, government housing is available on the base. However, waiting times can take as long as three to six months, depending on the paygrade. Because of this, many service members look for housing outside the base. If you are looking for off-base housing, looking for housing in Albany would be your best bet, as there aren’t any major settlements nearby besides Albany. The best neighborhoods you should be on the lookout for are West Albany, around Albany Mall in general.

MCLB Albany does not have DoD schools, nor does it have any schools on the base. Children of the service members are served by the Dougherty County Schooling System. Fortunately, Radium Springs Elementary and Middle Schools are located just outside the base.

Albany is not a huge city, but it still offers some fun activities that can be enjoyed with a family. The Flint River Aquarium has a lot to show its visitors, and if you are a golfer you will enjoy practicing your drive in the River Pointe Golf Club, just northeast of the city.
