The United States Coast Guard operates the Loran Support Unit in Wildwood Crest, Cape May County, and New Jersey. The unit is responsible for the LRNS – Long Range Navigation System for the western coasts. The system helps the sailors locate themselves in the US waters and find their precise position. However, it does not only support the US Coast Guard, but all the ships and aircraft in the area, including the private ones.

One can find housing on base at Training Center Cape May, and the housing consists of over 170 Coast Guard owned housing units and two command quarters. There are a number of two-bedroom units, three-bedroom units, and four-bedroom units to choose from. There are also rooms available for single members. Off base, housing can be found in the nearby cities of Wildwood, North Cape May, and Ocean City.

Due to the absence of schools on-base, families will have to choose from any of the school districts and select the school that suits them best. Ocean City school district has been rated best in the county, with its elementary and high schools showing top scores. There are also private schools in the area like Winston’s Preparatory School.
