Joint Base Charleston was formerly known as Charleston Air Force Base and is located in the city of North Charleston, South Carolina. It sits on 3,400 acres of land 10 miles from downtown Charleston. Charleston has a solid military history with a moderate cost of living, which has drawn a lot of veterans and military retirees to it. Joint Base Charleston was built in 1942 and is under the jurisdiction of the United States Air Force’s 528th Air Base Wing.

Joint Base Charleston Family Housing offers civilian and military housing for the people who work at the Air Base and Weapons Base. There are a total of 562 family housing units that are located in two different areas, and both are gated communities. Nonetheless, they are lovely off-base locations like Park Circle, Ashley Shores, Ashley Junction, Deweys Hill, Windsor Place, Ashley Acres, and Charleston Heights.

Three separate school districts surround joint Base Charleston; Charleston, Dorchester District 2, and Berkeley County school districts. These are all within the area, although there are no on-base schools. Schools you could take your child to are Hunley Park Elementary School, North Charleston High School, North Charleston Elementary School, Academic Magnet High School, Goodwin Elementary School, and Morningside Middle School. You should note that there is a Child Development Center on base.

In North Charleston, you could take your child to Monkey Joe’s for playtime or stimulate your inner child with the arcade games at Velocity Air Sports. Other fun places you could go are Northwoods Stadium 13 Movie Theater, C&S Shooting Sports, Regal Charles Towne Square Stadium, and Sandpiper Lanes.
