Hanscom Air Force Base is located near the town of Bedford, in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. The base is very close to historic sites such as Concord, Lexington, and Arlington. Hanscom AFB is also near Boston, the most populous city and the capital city of Massachusetts. The base is approximately 25 miles away from downtown Boston. These days, the base is home to USAF Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, and the Massachusetts National Guard, as the base serves as Massachusetts Army and Air Force Joint Force Headquarters.

Hanscom AFB offers privatized on-base housing. Housing is managed by Hunt Military Communities, which offers 5 distinct neighborhoods on the base based on rank and family size. The housing communities on base are pet-friendly, which is a place. If you are looking for housing off-base you would have to look at housing in Lincoln, Lexington, Concord, and Bedford. While these places are great to live in and filled with history, the area has the second-highest cost of living, due to its close proximity to Boston. Also, since the area is subjected to harsh winters, commuting times should also be a factor for military families looking for housing off-base.

There are no DoD schools in Hanscom AFB, however, there are two public schools on base – the Hanscom Primary School and the Hanscom Middle School. There are no high schools on base, the nearest high school is Bedford High School which is located right outside the base.

The area surrounding the base is rich in history and offers many things to its residents. Boston is one of the most historic cities in the country and is world-renowned for its higher education institutes. However, the area is also very expensive to live in, which should be accounted for if you are looking for off-base housing.
