Each year, Fort Drum offers this training and support to more than 26,500 Reserve and National Guard members and personnel from other federal, state, and local agencies. This base encompasses about 107,265 acres and the post’s workforce includes more than 15,000 military service members and approximately 3,700 civilian personnel. Approximately 15,000 family members live on base or in the local area, and more than 3,000 military retirees live in the local area.

There are numerous recreational possibilities available on post, including camping, fishing, bowling, swimming, etc. Outdoor leisure options abound just outside the gates. The Adirondack Mountains, natural preserves, parks, the Thousand Islands, the Great Lakes, and the St. Lawrence River provide opportunities for various activities. There’s enough to do whether you prefer to ride, hike, fish, hunt, camp, swim, boat, golf, ski, or rock climb.
Though there are no DoDEA schools on the post, there are many options for your child’s education near Fort Drum. The state offers traditional public schools, as well as public charter schools and private schools. Children who live on post attend schools in the Carthage Central School District or Indian River Central School District.
LendLease Military Housing manages Fort Drum on-post housing. They offer standalone homes with 2-4 bedrooms and desirable amenities. Furthermore, there are over ten different neighborhoods, including Thousand Islands, Fir, Puma, and Moose. You can also choose to live in nearby communities of Black River, Calcium, Carthage, Evans Mills, LeRay, Philadelphia, and Watertown.
