Fort Dix is situated at Joint Base McGuire-Dix Lakehurst near Trenton, New Jersey, 16.1 miles south of Trenton. It is a training base built in 1917 but made a permanent garrison in 1939. Its primary objective is to mobilize, train, and deploy troops and this base covers over 32,000 acres. Trenton is located in Mercer County and is the capital of New Jersey that was the US capital for a short period in 1784.

Fort Dix base housing management is divided between two private companies, United Communities manages the neighborhoods at McGuire-Dix, while Balfour Beatty Communities manages the ones at Lakehurst. So you would have to choose the best place for you to live. Alternatively, you could stay off base in Hiltonia, South Trenton, North Trenton, Pennington-Prospect, Chestnut Park, and Chambersburg or any of the other neighborhoods in Trenton.

If you decide to stay on the base; you could enroll your kid in any of the public schools in North Hanover Township, Northern Burlington County Regional, or Pemberton Township school districts. But students staying in Lakehurst will attend schools under the Manchester Township School districts. Still, schools like Fort Dix Elementary and Dix Child Development Centers are elementary schools located on Fort Dix that your kids could attend. Thomas Edison State and The College of New Jersey are colleges in the area of Trenton which offer four-year degrees from business to liberal arts.

Sesame Place, Washington Crossing Historic Park, and Pennsbury Manor are kid-friendly places you and your families can visit. Trenton Social and Rho Waterfront are also fun places to go alone and have fun.
